Finland. Helsinki, Rauma - October
I've been to Finland on numerous occasions, exploring Helsinki, the Åland Islands, and Ruka in the past.
One of the aspects I particularly enjoy about this country is its yogurts:
This time I decided to immerse myself in the Finnish atmosphere by spending a week in a remote town.
I arrived in Helsinki via ferry from Tallinn and spent two days exploring the city.
Helsinki remains largely unchanged:
At times, it hints at the Soviet era in its architectural style:
The subway is made without decorations, just carved in the rocks.
There's an infamous joke circulating about social distancing during the COVID era, which humorously captures the Finnish approach:
“-Social distance must be at least 2 meters... “
“-Why do we need to be so close?”
After Helsinki, we embarked on a bus journey to the charming town of Rauma in western Finland. Although it wasn't initially part of our itinerary, it turned out to be a wise decision.
Rauma boasts an enchanting old town characterized by its well-maintained wooden houses that look tidy and lovely:

Our apartment was a typical Soviet-style building with a distinct Finnish charm.
Suburbs of Rauma looks like a Windows XP wallpaper:
Interestingly, decorative fences in the area are constructed using my favorite chokeberry, although it seems nobody indulges in its consumption. For some reason, nobody eats it 🙂
